Birdhouse Miniature Art Gallery | WIVT

HANCOCK, NY – A tiny art collection is looking to make a splash when it opens in Hancock tomorrow.

The Birdhouse Gallery will inaugurate with its inaugural exhibition titled “A Certain Blue”.

Artist and curator Sunny Chapman moved to Hancock from Brooklyn at the start of the pandemic last year.

Chapman was inspired by other miniature art exhibits she had seen around town as well as her friend’s small free library.

So, she appealed to other New York artists to create works that mostly measure less than 3 inches by inches and incorporate the color blue.

Chapman says she is amazed at the 10 pieces she selected.

“These are people who have higher degrees, who are art teachers, I am none of those things. In fact, they did a job just for my show. I am very touched and honored by this, but I am also so impressed with the beauty of the work, ”Chapman said.

Chapman, who chose not to exhibit his own work, had the Birdhouse Gallery built outside his Catskills Art B and B, which also houses his art studio.

She creates paintings and collages depicting stones, sea flowers and tree roots, as well as fine art jewelry.

The opening is scheduled from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. tomorrow at 499 East Front Street in Hancock.

The show will remain on view until June 15.
