Small free art gallery featuring miniature works on Winter Green Drive in Waterloo

A woman from Waterloo has created an original art gallery in her neighborhood, showcasing miniature pieces created by local artists.

The project is called the Free Little Art Gallery.

The current gallery is a large white storefront on the side of the road on Winter Green Drive filled with miniature painted pictures, sculptures, and other works of art.

“You can leave a piece of your own art or you can take a piece of art or you can do both,” said Meredith Sexton, the creator of the Free Little Art Gallery.

Sexton said her husband built the display box and installed it in August. Since then it has been a popular place for artists to promote their work. Local creators are not the only ones to contribute.

“As far as Cambridge and Toronto. I have art coming from Sweden soon,” Sexton said.

Waterloo artist Melissa Fitzgerald is one of the artists featured in the gallery.

“Having hands-on, in-person experience with free art has been fantastic,” Fitzgerald said.

Sexton said he received a lot of positive feedback on the project, which is also getting a lot of attention on social media.

“I think now more than ever art is so therapeutic,” Sexton said.

The goal is to have the Free Little Art Gallery open year-round on Winter Green Drive, weather permitting.
