CBS supports continuation of Star Trek miniature models

The fall of Eaglemoss has fans looking for a new way to continue their collection.

Never doubt the importance that the collection has in a fandom. Sports fans have trading cards, comic book fans have comic books, and video game fans have outrageously expensive video games that are digital only. yay. For Star Trek fans, it’s always been about the ships that make the show.

Of course, there are other avenues to follow, such as comic books, action figures, and if you’re a PC user, video games. Yet the only staple through it all. Through uneven video games, canceled action figure lines, and a comic book series that remains non-canon, are the ships.

Unfortunately, one of the biggest designers and producers of vintage ships, Eaglemoss, has filed for bankruptcy because the company has spread too thin; with former Director of Licensed Products, Ben Robinson narrating TrekMovie;

The company went on a very aggressive growth plan and was unable to sustain it and collapsed… Basically what happens is you invest in more stocks than you can’t sell it. So you tie up your money in stock, you don’t have enough cash to operate, and things go wrong.

CBS is backing the Star Trek miniatures lineup, so there’s hope

Robinson has spoken out about the future of the brand, and although Eaglemoss as an entity is not likely to be revived, CBS/Paramount said they are very supportive of the product line, giving Robinson the hope that the brand will be revived and ended by someone, especially if they have ties to CBS.

They were blindsided by this (CBS/Paramount), Eaglemoss senior management didn’t tell them (Administration) until very late in the day. So they didn’t have time to put other plans in place, nor a lot of opportunities to try to work things out. I know they are very concerned about people ending up with incomplete models and finding a solution to that is very important to them. There are no guarantees, but they really care.

If you’re a collector of the Star Trek brand of Eaglemoss line of miniatures, you might be in luck. If CBS/Paramount steps in, it’s very likely the line will be over. If you’ve collected things like James Bond or Dr. Who items, you’re probably better off looking for a new line of collectibles to add to your collection.
